Today was a true vacation day. I personally took 2 naps and they were spectacular. I woke up early and took Mom and John down to my tree to watch the sunrise and when we returned, I took a nap. Later, I thought about working out and I took a nap instead. Decadent, right?!
Papaya for Breakfast.
Headed to the Saturday Market! Waiting for our Taxi.
Taxi Aquatico
.
We did make it to the big market and then we bought 4 lbs of blue fin tuna for $9. Will says that would have cost him $100 in NYC.Fish Market Fun:
We took a picture just cause it's a cute family. I love the little stool :)
Is it silly that I really really love the water taxis?!
The Gorgeous 5 bedroom house for ONLY $2k a night.
John's Afternoon Nap
My afternoon nap.
We have an interesting system for getting water here. There is tap water but we can't drink it and even after we wash dishes we rinse with water from our cistern. The cistern collects rain water from PVC gutters around our rooftop terrace. The water is directed to the cisterns which are hidden behind a wall on the terrace. That water then travels through another pipe down to the kitchen below where we have a spigot to control the flow. Um, so, I have no idea if this water is filtered but we are all going strong.
We also have a system for cleaning our veggies. That one is more straightforward -- we soak everything in a solution mixed with our rainwater. Even if we are not eating the rind/ peel, it gets soaked. I'm not sure if there is something more we should be doing for the fish but I think the fishermen are protecting the finer catches. I did see an iguana going to town on a smaller fish this morning and then the fisherman hosed it off and slapped it up on the table... ick!
Tomorrow we are going back to Tortuga bay (Mom, always the wordsmith, calls it Tortilla Bay). Then it looks like we are planning an Academy Bay tour for Monday - we expect to see more sea lions and perhaps even swim with them! Sharks! Sea turtles! Jack and I want to see penguins so we are researching a tour to either Bartolome or San Cristobal for Wednesday. So much to look forward to :-)
Finally, I decided to bake my red bean burgers with pureed garlic, onions, mushrooms, oatmeal, and s touch of brown sugar. (no pic) Will and Jack devoured those as a snack.
For dinner, I seared tuna again with roasted red and yellow onions, beets, broccoli, eggplant, yellow and green peppers with a fresh lime spritz. There isn't a single bite remaining :-)
