Las Grietas

Aka the Crevice.  Sounds cool, right?!  It was :-)   Our closest beach was on the way to Las Grietas so we decided to stop there on our way home.  The hike was about 20 mins over precarious terrain: sharp lava rocks in sand, sharp lava rocks under water, sharp lava rocks up a hill.... and they were still there on the way back down too.  Will's foot was minorly (it could be a word) punctured by a shrub and immediately began to swell.  He seems fine now but we all had to really concentrate while hiking the path.

The destination was not a letdown - the water was clear and green though there wasn't much to see below the surface.   The weather has been comfortable with a light breeze but it is humid .  Diving off the cliffs into cool, salty water was exactly what we all needed.  Will, Jack, and I climbed the rock face for a rush.  I was feeling it about 15ft up, Jack made it to 25ft, and Will went up to 40!  I felt like it was pretty high when I jumped but now I'm a little ashamed looking at the video - I'm a wimp!  Everyone enjoyed watching the locals do back flips from 40 ft up =-O

Then beach was just OK.  We plan to head towards a favored beach Las Tortugas for some surfing and swimming around 5 am tomorrow.  I better finish this entry up and head for bed.  It's 9pm now and I'm the only one up...

We did have dinner in town this evening.... "William's Kiosk" served more yummy wahoo with a coconut sauce.  Very good and very cheap!  Puerto Ayora is gorgeous after dark.  The pier is illuminated below and the water looks beautiful in the light.  All the restaurants also have lights strung and there were volley ball games in the square with Tons of locals socializing and gambling around the perimeter.  A very lively atmosphere!  I'll work on pics of the area at night tomorrow.  I'm also hoping to use the underwater camera tomorrow.  More to come!
