Everyone that i've spoken to about this trip asks the question "what are you most looking forward to?" I've offered various responses (eat a piranha! souvenirs for my friends!) but overall i'm excited about the unknown. Regardless of how much i've read or the documentaries i've viewed - the Galapagos islands are going to be unlike any destination i've experienced. I volunteered to cook everyday but i dont know what to expect at market... I cant wait to experiment!
I decided to pose the same question to each family member. Of course, Momma is happy to have everyone in the same place. (Will lives in NYC and Jack is off to college in the fall.) John is eager to see exotic animals completely lacking fear of humans (because they are protected). I must agree - there are so many pictures in books of tourists posing inches away from adorable seals - we get to be those tourists! Jack is just relieved to be out of high school. Will is travelling separately and it seems he has been brainwashed because his text response to my question was, "seeing my sister." I'm sure if he were of sound mind he would have indicated the giant tortoises for which the islands are named.

We are in Miami awaiting our flight to Quito. Then we travel to meet Will in Guayaquil and spend the night. A puddle jumper takes us on the final leg of our journey to Isla Santa Cruz. Mom has informed me that the puddle is 600 miles so it should be a quick trip. Fingers crossed for safe travels!
